going out with a bang

The sun casts itself over towards the yard arm, on this, my first day of the rest of my life.
The last show I'll be painting, for Canada's National Arts Centre, English Theatre, has been a baroque rendition of 12th Night. The Old Trout Puppet Company has designed an outrageous interpretation for me to manifest for them. It was certainly a labour of love. It opens in a few days and I am expectant.... to see the costumes, the props, the actors, the lights and sounds, bringing it all to life, if only for a little while...

Birch

A few years ago now, I painted the set for King Lear at our National Arts Centre in Ottawa. The director, Peter Hinton, had set the play in Canada at the appropriate time period. It was a wonderful rendition of the classic. It was a simple set and included a large faux birch tree. When the production was finished the tree was destined for the dump. With the help of  a few friends I managed to get it out to my property in Springtown. A few days ago it finally found its resting place, alongside my studio!
Here it is......it is made of sona tube, foam, and paint, and a little theatrical ingenuity.....
21 feet long/high...

season of change

Time to pack up and get to the city....its theatre season. Here, I awaken to the sound of distant gunshot, it's hunting season, and time to leave.
The first set will be  a delicious array of warm and cool greys, depicting a coastal scenario.
I am looking forward to it. Glace Bay Miners' Museum...

Undulation, that's my vision when first asked to do something about Oscar Peterson in the windows by the intended sculpture installation.....

Tribute to Oscar Peterson

Here I am putting the finishing touches on the undulating keyboard that is part of the tribute to Oscar Peterson at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa Canada. I love painting large, it satisfies something in my soul. I was brought up with Jazz music playing in our house all the time. It is with pleasure and pride that I created and designed this imagery. Mom would be proud!
I love my job as an artist!
